Online promotions are exploding. In 2012, advertisers spent 88% more on promotions than they had a decade earlier. According to Borrell Associates, promotions are expected to be an $80 billion industry by 2017. Online promotions are growing so much because digital is the ultimate promotion vehicle. It is a lean-forward medium that allows consumers to interact directly with advertisers – they can purchase a deal, they can download or share a coupon, they can enter or vote in a contest.
